MPJE prep compared: what each resource actually gives you
The best MPJE® (Multistate Pharmacy Jurisprudence Examination) prep is whatever covers your jurisdiction, because NABP builds a separate MPJE for each state: UWorld RxPrep, PharmLaw and the tl;dr cheat sheets pair federal law with a state layer, and NABP’s own Pre-MPJE is the only practice test written for your jurisdiction by the exam owner. Thirteen states now use the Uniform MPJE (UMPJE) instead, which changes the shopping list. Every feature below was read off the seller’s own page on October 19, 2026; prices and pass claims are left out on purpose.
Checked against NABP and federal sources on October 19, 2026.
§ 1 Quick comparison table (verified, dated facts only)
Read the last column as the seller’s own count, not ours. For scale: one MPJE sitting is 120 items, 100 scored and 20 unscored pretest items you cannot tell apart, so a 200-question bank is under two exams’ worth of practice.
| Resource | Format | Federal and state law | UMPJE option | Practice items (seller’s count) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| NABP Pre-MPJE / Pre-UMPJE | Online practice exam, 50 minutes | Pre-MPJE: questions specific to your jurisdiction | Pre-UMPJE | 40 per attempt |
| UWorld RxPrep MPJE | Course manual, QBank, 76 videos, flashcards, app | Federal manual; 9-page state study guide and state flashcards | Promised, not yet sold | 225+ questions plus a 90-item practice test |
| tl;dr pharmacy cheat sheets | 9-page worksheet (Word and PDF); pre-filled state sheets | Prompts you answer from your state’s law; pre-filled sheets link each answer to the state code | UMPJE cheat sheet | None; it is a question list to fill in |
| PharmLaw | PDF study guides, quizzes, flashcards; 3 months’ access | One course per state; quizzes mix federal and state | Uniform MPJE course | 200 quiz questions plus 125 bonus and mini-exam items |
| Dr. C’s Review Guides | Printed books, online boot camp | NY, PA and TX guides plus a federal guide | UMPJE book and 8-hour boot camp | 75 in the UMPJE book; 100-item practice exam |

Prices change too often to print and are not compared here. Exam Master is left out of the table because its product pages would not load for us on October 19, 2026; see the other courses.

§ 2 UWorld RxPrep
RxPrep is now part of UWorld, and searches for “rxprep mpje” and “uworld mpje” land on the same product: the UWorld RxPrep MPJE Online Course. It is the most structured option here, built around a course manual that, in UWorld’s words, covers federal pharmacy regulations and highlights state-specific topics.
- Course manual
- Federal law, study tips, key drug lists and case scenarios, with a nine-page state study guide of potential exam questions at the back.
- QBank
- 225+ practice questions plus a 90-item practice test; the page headline rounds the two to “300+”.
- Video
- 76 short lectures, each linked to QBank questions and manual chapters.
- State flashcards
- 110+ pre-filled cards for your state; more state decks are sold separately.
- Access
- 90-day or 180-day plans with the printed manual, plus renewals; a mobile app for flashcards, notes and lectures.
On the UMPJE, UWorld’s UMPJE exam page says it will develop targeted materials as the content specifications are finalized. As of October 19, 2026 there was no UMPJE course to buy. Who it suits: a candidate in a state-MPJE jurisdiction who wants federal law taught in order, with video, and is willing to fill the state gaps from the board’s own statutes.
§ 3 tl;dr pharmacy (cheat sheets)
The tl;dr MPJE Cheat Sheet is not a course. It is a nine-page list of potential MPJE questions, delivered as a fillable Word file and a printable PDF, and you answer each prompt yourself from your state’s law book. That fits how the MPJE is built: every state’s exam follows the same NABP competency areas, and the answers come from that state’s law.
- Blank worksheet: one purchase, reusable for any state MPJE.
- Pre-filled state sheets: tl;dr fills in the answers, and each answer links to the section of that state’s law code it came from.
- UMPJE cheat sheet: the same template answered for the uniform exam.
- Free article: “How to Study for the MPJE (and Pass on Your First Try)”, with a printable copy sold separately.
Who it suits: the “tldr mpje” crowd who learn by writing, and anyone sitting a second state who already knows federal law. Pair it with practice questions, because the sheet has none.
§ 4 NABP Pre-MPJE: NABP’s own practice exam
The Pre-MPJE is the one resource written by the people who write the exam, and its questions are specific to the jurisdiction you pick. It is also short, and it is rationed.

The tell Either way, you have 7 days to sit the practice exam once you buy it, so buy it the week you plan to use it.
§ 5 PharmLaw, Exam Master, Dr. C’s and state association courses
PharmLaw
PharmLaw sells one course per state plus a Uniform MPJE course, and also courses for the Arkansas exam, California’s CPJE and Nevada’s NVLE. Each includes state, federal and compounding study guides, 200 quiz questions split into four 50-question quizzes that mix federal and state items, 50 bonus compounding and 50 bonus federal questions, 25 “Mini Exam” questions and controlled-substance schedule flashcards. Answers and explanations appear as soon as you answer. Access runs 3 months from purchase.
Dr. C’s Review Guides
Dr. C’s Review Guides publishes state review books for New York, Pennsylvania and Texas, a federal guide, and for 2026 a spiral-bound UMPJE book with 75 practice questions and explained answers. An 8-hour online UMPJE boot camp (the book is required and sold separately) and a 100-item practice exam sit alongside it.
Exam Master
Exam Master sells state-named “MPJE Practice Exam & Law Review” packages. Its product pages would not load for us on October 19, 2026, so we print no question or page counts for it; read the package page for your state before you buy.
State pharmacists associations
Some state associations run their own law reviews. The Pennsylvania Pharmacists Association, for example, sells a 4-hour federal module and a 3-hour Pennsylvania module, plus a separate review of 60 Pennsylvania law practice questions across four modules organized by the Competency Statements. Search your own state association before paying for a national course: it is the one seller whose whole business is your state’s law.
§ 6 Free options (incl. our practice questions)
You can build a federal base without paying anyone. NABP itself publishes the outline and sample items, and the federal rules sit on eCFR for free.
- NABP Competency Statements — the outline in force for exams before March 1, 2027: four areas weighted 22, 33, 24 and 21 percent.
- NABP sample items for the MPJE and the UMPJE — a handful of items showing question formats, not a practice bank.
- ASHP’s 2026 Pharmacy Law Examination Preparation Guide (New Practitioners Forum, updated February 2026) — an FAQ plus federal and state resource lists.
- PreMPJE.com — free 120-question adaptive practice tests labeled by state, and UMPJE tests; the site states it is not connected or affiliated with NABP.
- The Rx Annotated casebook — 60 free practice cases, each tagged Federal rule or Multistate principle, with the explanation shown after you answer. No state’s own law is in it.
The app is for iPhone and gives you practice questions on the phone, between shifts. We do not claim it covers your state’s law or the UMPJE, so pair it, like the casebook, with your board’s statutes. For the federal layer in order, start with the study guide.
§ 7 Before you pay: what seller pages leave out
Forum threads and seller pages argue about which brand is best. Run these five checks before you pay; each takes a minute and settles more than a brand name.
- Your exam: state MPJE, UMPJE, your board’s own exam or none. NABP’s list decides, not the seller’s state menu.
- The outline date: exams before March 1, 2027 follow the Competency Statements; from that date a new Content Outline applies. Testing in spring 2027? Ask which one the product is written to.
- The access clock against your eligibility window: UWorld sells 90 or 180 days, PharmLaw 3 months, the Pre-MPJE gives you 7 days after purchase.
- The state layer: written for your state, or a generic worksheet you fill in yourself? Both work; know which you are paying for.
- The second state: each state MPJE is its own exam at $100 + $170, and the score does not transfer, so a resource reusable across states saves more than its price suggests.
§ 8 How to choose for your state
Step 1
Find your exam
Look your board up on NABP’s UMPJE participating-states page and its list of which boards require which exam. As of October 19, 2026, 13 states use the UMPJE; Kansas, Maryland, Nebraska and Washington still offer their state MPJE in parallel for now.
Step 2
UMPJE state: buy UMPJE-labeled material
Pre-UMPJE, PharmLaw’s Uniform MPJE course, Dr. C’s UMPJE book and the tl;dr UMPJE sheet all exist as of that date. A state-MPJE course is the wrong product here.
Step 3
State-MPJE state: federal base plus your statutes
Take one federal resource (a course, the study guide or the free casebook), then read your board’s practice act and rules with a worksheet or a state-specific course beside you.
Step 4
Test yourself once with the Pre-MPJE
It is the only practice test built for your jurisdiction, and you get one per year per state. Sit it after the federal review, not on day one.
Step 5
Book the retake math before you need it
A failed MPJE means a 30-day wait and a fresh $100 + $170, with at most five attempts per jurisdiction unless your board decides otherwise.
§ 9 Questions candidates ask
Is RxPrep MPJE worth it?
For a state MPJE, it is the most structured federal course here: a manual, 225+ questions, a 90-item practice test and 76 videos. Its state material is a nine-page study guide plus flashcards, so you still read your board’s statutes. For the UMPJE, UWorld had no course on sale as of October 19, 2026.
Is the tl;dr MPJE cheat sheet worth it?
It is worth it if you study by writing things down. The blank sheet is a nine-page list of questions you answer from your own state’s law, reusable for any state; the pre-filled state sheets link every answer to the state code so you can check it. It contains no practice questions, so pair it with a question bank.
Is PharmLaw enough to pass the MPJE?
No product can promise a pass, and we do not rank outcomes. PharmLaw gives you state, federal and compounding guides, 200 quiz questions plus 125 bonus and mini-exam items, and 3 months of access. Whether that is enough depends on how much federal law you already hold; a Pre-MPJE attempt adds one jurisdiction-specific check.
Do I need a state-specific resource?
For a state MPJE, you need state-specific material: each state has its own exam, and the stricter rule decides the answer. That can be your board’s practice act and rules plus a worksheet, a state course, or both.
For the UMPJE, look for UMPJE-labeled material instead; its state-law questions are uniform across the participating states. Check which exam your board uses on our states page.
